1. What Is a Cookie
A cookie is a small text file that a website places on your device — your phone, tablet, or computer — when you visit it. Cookies are stored in your browser and sent back to the website each time you return. They allow the website to remember information about your visit, such as whether you are logged in.
Cookies are not programs and cannot carry viruses or malware. They are simply small files containing text data. Most websites use them — they are a standard and widely accepted technology.
Two types of cookies by duration
Session cookies: exist only while your browser is open. They are deleted automatically when you close your browser tab or window.
Persistent cookies: remain on your device for a set period of time (days, weeks, or months) even after you close the browser.
2. How GikoTasks Uses Cookies
GikoTasks uses cookies for two purposes only: to keep the platform functioning correctly (essential cookies) and to understand basic usage patterns so we can improve the platform (analytics cookies). We do not use cookies for advertising.
2.1 Essential Cookies
What essential cookies do
- These cookies are required for the GikoTasks platform to work.
- Without them, you cannot log in, make a booking, or use the platform at all.
- You cannot opt out of essential cookies while using GikoTasks.
- These cookies never track you across other websites.

2.2 Analytics Cookies
What analytics cookies do
- These cookies help us understand how visitors use GikoTasks so we can improve it.
- They tell us things like: which pages are visited most, where users drop off in the booking flow, and what devices people use.
- Analytics cookies do not identify you personally — they collect anonymous, aggregated data.
- You can opt out of analytics cookies without affecting your ability to use the platform.

Google Analytics data is processed by Google in accordance with their privacy policy. Google does not receive any personally identifiable information from GikoTasks analytics. The data is aggregated and anonymous.
2.3 Cookie Consent Banner
When you first visit gikotasks.com, you will see a cookie consent banner at the bottom of the page. The banner explains which cookies we use and gives you the option to accept or decline analytics cookies. Essential cookies are always active and cannot be declined.
The banner text reads: 'GikoTasks uses essential cookies to keep you logged in and basic analytics cookies to improve the platform. You can accept all cookies or essential cookies only. See our Cookie Policy for details.'

3. What We Do Not Use Cookies For
To be completely transparent, here is what GikoTasks does not do with cookies:
We never use cookies for any of the following
- Advertising or retargeting — we do not show you GikoTasks ads on other websites based on your visit history.
- Third-party marketing — we do not share cookie data with advertisers, marketing networks, or social media platforms for advertising purposes.
- Cross-site tracking — our cookies do not follow you to other websites.
- Profiling — we do not build behavioral profiles of individual users based on cookie data.
- Selling data — we never sell cookie data or any other user data to any third party.
4. Third-Party Cookies
GikoTasks uses one third-party service that places cookies on your device when you visit our platform:
4.1 Google Analytics
- Provider: Google LLC
- Purpose: Measuring website traffic and usage patterns to improve GikoTasks
- Data collected: Anonymous usage data — pages visited, session duration, device type, approximate location by city
- Data stored: On Google's servers — Google's privacy policy applies to this data
- Opt-out option: You can opt out of Google Analytics by declining analytics cookies in our consent banner, or by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout

GikoTasks has configured Google Analytics with IP anonymization enabled. This means the last part of your IP address is masked before it is sent to Google's servers, preventing Google from identifying your precise location.
No social media pixels or tracking
GikoTasks does not use Facebook Pixel, TikTok Pixel, Twitter tracking, or any other social media tracking cookie.
Clicking links to our social media pages (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok) will take you to those platforms. Those platforms may set their own cookies once you are on their sites — that is governed by their policies, not ours.
5. How to Manage and Control Cookies
You have full control over cookies on your device. Here are your options:
5.1 Using the GikoTasks Cookie Banner
The easiest way to manage analytics cookies on GikoTasks is through our cookie consent banner. It appears on your first visit and you can change your preference at any time by clicking the 'Cookie Settings' link in the footer of any page.

Important: effect of disabling cookies
If you disable essential cookies: you will not be able to log in to GikoTasks or make bookings. The platform will not function correctly without them.
If you disable only analytics cookies: you can still use all GikoTasks features normally. You will simply not be counted in our anonymous usage statistics.

6. Cookie Consent for Users Under 18
GikoTasks is a platform for adults aged 18 and above. We do not knowingly place cookies on devices of users under 18. If you believe a person under 18 is using GikoTasks, please contact us at [email protected] so we can review and close the account.
7. Cookies and Rwandan Law
This Cookie Policy is written in compliance with:
- Rwandan Law No. 058/2021 on Personal Data Protection and Privacy
- The guidelines issued by the Rwanda Information Society Authority (RISA) on digital platform data practices
Under Rwandan law, cookies that collect personal data require user consent. GikoTasks obtains consent through the cookie banner before placing any analytics cookies. Essential cookies are exempt from consent requirements as they are strictly necessary for the platform to function.
8. How Long Your Consent Is Valid
When you make a choice in the GikoTasks cookie banner, your preference is saved for 12 months. After 12 months, the banner will appear again and ask for your preference.
- You can change your cookie preference at any time via the 'Cookie Settings' link in the footer
- Clearing your browser history or cookies will reset your preference and the banner will appear again on your next visit
- Changing browsers or devices means your preference is not carried over — each browser and device is treated separately
9. Updates to This Cookie Policy
GikoTasks may update this Cookie Policy when we add new features, start using new cookies, or when legal requirements change. When we make significant changes:
- The Effective Date at the top of this document will be updated
- Registered users will be notified via WhatsApp at least 14 days before significant changes take effect
- The current version of this policy is always available at gikotasks.com/cookies
- If new cookies are added that require consent, the cookie banner will reappear asking for your updated preference
